l have an 06 Scion Tc with the stock rims.l do not have enough money to get new rims so l am looking at painting mine a different color.l do not know what color would look best with my Tc, since it is Flint Mica.l was wondering where l can get the supplies and what the step by step process may be in order to do this correctly the first time?l really want this to look right, and l want it to last.Thanks.

suggestion for the paint color. u should paint it gray, dark gray, or black. they will go with any car plus it makes them look sexy and sporty.

l suggest against doing the paint job yourself because painting is not an easy thing to do without experience & attention to detail. But, u can try this:

Buy some Duplicolor (or whatever other brand) wheel paint from ur local Pepboys or Autozone, some 400 or 600 grit sand paper, & masking tape.

Then take the wheels off ur car & use some newspaper & mask the tire. You can also mask the lip if u want to keep it the color u have now. Then sand off the original paint. Make sure the surface is clean & apply the paint using the distance & technique specified on the bottle. It should be about 6 - 8 inches ( l think.) & it should tell u to put light coats on. Try to spray from side to side making sure to get a nice & even coat on. It should also tell u the drying time & intervals between coats. l think 2 or 3 coats should be about enough. Remember to put light coats though, u want the mist to get on there, not a liquid. Do not rush it.

l am pretty sure u can find a better tutorial online, but this is how l would do it.

Flint Mica is a pretty nice color, congrats. =) l think bronze or a duller gold would look sexy on ur car.

Scrub the wheels good with some Dawn dish soap & maybe repeat with some simple green then Dawn again. Point is to really make sure they r clean. Then l would lightly sand them down with some high grit sand paper all over. Tape off the tire good & paint with some good paint. You can buy paint in a spray can made specifically for wheels. Couple coats of clear, let dry a night or two & enjoy. Now u will have to do some touch up every once in a while because u can not avoid the occasional scratch or chip. But u will have everything to do it with so it is easy.

You can take them to mostly any paint shop and they'llknow what to do. l know where Im from they will do it for a hundred a wheel. Me personally l would rather spend two more and buy the rims and throw my tires on them instead. But our stock rims would look slick a different color.
