Hi l have a tC and am debating whether or not to get a TRD cold air intake. How much HP will l gain? In the city and on the highway, how many MPG is will l gain? Any other useful information?
l care more about getting better gas mileage than gaining HP, with gas at the price it is. How much MPG would the TRD high performance air filter gain as well?

As dynos have proven time & time again, u will see barely any gain at all.

At best, a few horsepower to the wheels. Which means, u wo not have any more than ur factory rated horsepower, but the actual amount u put to the ground may increase slightly.

Some intakes have actually been known to decrease horsepower.

However, horsepower is a moot point, since it is just a calculated figure. What u really want is torque.

Secondly, even if u increase ur gas mileage by 10%; after some lengthy math, it means that you'd save yourself about $1 every 100 miles. If it is a $200 intake, you'd have to drive 20,000 miles before you're actually seeing a benefit to ur wallet.

This is true for both the intake, & the high performance filter. Both of these things DO help, but it is completely marginal. More importantly, it is pretty much a given that when people upgrade their cars, they drive them a little harder than they did before.

Which completely destroys any benefit in MPG that they may have gained. And thus, u may actually get less MPG than u did before.

Simply not worth it. Do some research :)

l commend u for ur enthusiasm for performance motor sports. Having said that though, adding a cold air intake to ur tC really is not going to do u a bit of good.

I'd be willing to bet that ur HP will increase by maybe 1-5HP.if at all. Depending on who makes the intake & whether it was engineered professionally or just designed to look cool the intake may actually decrease ur car is performance.

You should do some research. If you're interested in creating a powerful car than you're probably going to have to turbocharge ur tC. l may be wrong, but l think the tC was manufactured so that it could be tuned & u could safely add a turbo without the engine exploding on you. Look into it.

Oh, the turbo would definitely decrease ur MPG.

As the others have mentioned, gains from any of the simple bolt-ons (Intake, Headers, & Exhaust) r minimal.

However, if u were to buy an intake, headers, exhaust, & then get everything tuned with a Greddy emanage ultimate, you'd be noticeably faster than the average tC. We know of one person that hit close to 200hp with that setup.

With mods like that, you're going to notice an increase in sound more so than anything else. The tC sounds a lot more aggressive at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) with an intake installed.

Not much but hp means little as toque is what gets car going fast or slow. Mpg may be 1-3 gain. What is needed is free flow converter (99.00) & Borla Muffler so u can use the air gas mix more efficently. You will see a difference in this case. You need to complete the free flow air by doingthis or u r getting basically a lifetime warranty on air filter & little more. You will have to drive 20-30,000 miles to break even while if u do other mods u may see a 5-10 hp & torque gain & a 2-8 MPG gain.

get the K&N typhoon cold air intake. l have it on mine, you feel a boost as well as hear the signature K&N whistle that sounds cool as hell.
