I am unable to correctly connect the wires/cables to the back of my heater control on my Scion XB. How to fix?

Someone recently tried stealing my stock stereo after breaking into my XB. They pulled open the center thus disconnecting the blue/red cables from my T-stat. l see on the back of the hot/cold knob an area where it appears the cables connect. I've tried one way, then switching them. One way does nothing and the second would just snap it back to the original position still not adjusting the temp. It is out of warranty and I am unable to afford to pay someone to fix it. It is now getting very cold out and I am forced to drive with the windows open to prevent the winshield from fogging. Please do not respond with sarcasm as it is been a difficult period and l was laid off this week. If anyone is familiar with how to make this repair myself and can be descriptive (or email pictures)...l would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you...

They may have piulled them from the heater box, if you pull on them they can come loose and cause it to not work properley.
Take a look under the dash and see if they are still atached to the blend doors.
