l got this new 2009 Scion XB for my flower business. l wanna know if should use regular oil or synthetic oil. l use synthetic oil for my 2 other cars that l use for my deliveries (2005 Dodge Magnum & 2006 Chevy HHR). What kind of motor oil should l use and what kind of oil filter should l use too?

if you're changing the oil regularly, conventional motor oil is fine.

the best thing to do is really send a sample of your old oil to a lab to be analyzed, but l realize 99% of the population wo not take the time to do that.

synthetic oil simply breaks down more slowly and lasts longer. if you want to play it safe, spring for the synthetic, but if you're changing the oil every 3,000 miles, conventional is fine.

Conventional is fine. As long as u change on a regular basis u should have a much longer engine life compared to ur domestic cars. l would suggest using the Toyota filter as the aftermarket filters dont have the built in valve that keeps the oil from draining back into the oil pan. This way u r not starting a dry enging every time. Ask ur service advisor at the dealership about this. Also, if the sales rep did not mention to you, ur first two oil changes r free. This is a national program that comes with every new Scion.

l asked the dealer the same question about my '08 xB. He strongly recommended conventional oil as specified in the owner is manual.said that synthetic oil is just a waste of money in an xB.

As a side note, l have never used synthetic in any vehicle l have owned & l typically run them for 150,000-200,000 miles. Just change the oil regularly. I've never gone more than 5000 miles between changes in the newer cars & change the oil at 2500 miles in older vehicles. If l have not reached the mileage interval within six months, l change it anyhow.
