l will be purchasing a Scion tc soon from a private seller. l spoke to him personally today and inspected the vehicle and everything is okay. When he gave me the key, l noticed that the alarm is the key. l asked him if he had a spare key and he said he didnt. l asked him how much it would cost to copy this key and he said probably a couple hundred. l thought that was a little high (of course the key for a Bugatti Veyron is $5000 bucks).

l would like to know how much it will cost to make a spare key for the Scion tC and where l can get the key copied (such as a Toyota/Scion dealership)

Thats around a 70 dollar key from a wholesale distributer so its probably at least 100-125 from the dealer. plus programming.
dealer or local locksmith could do it. programming could run 25-55 depending on where your at as long as you have a existing key as you stated.

This is true. When l purchsed my car from a dealer he gave me 3 keys.two with the door openers/panic button and one regular key. He also gave me a small, square metal thing that l can take to the locksmith and have a new key made. He told me if l ever lost that item I'd be paying anywhere from $200-$400 for a new key, depending on which key l wanted. So that is definately the truth, but does the old owner have the square thing?? It could save you a lot of money in the end.

l am surprised that he did not have the valet key or the 2nd key that it comes with. That just sounds weird, anyway, your best bet is to ask the dealership how much it would be to get the replacements. Good choice in car though!! Good luck!
