I am thinking of buying a new TC with a couple of extras added to it.My thought process was l could have a brand new car, or purchase something that is 1-2 years old for the same price. TC owners, tell me what do you think of your car?Also, I am torn between getting an auto or manual...
Just as an FYI, l have been driving a stick for the last 3 years (Civic coupe EX)...

l have a 2006 Scion TC. l really like it. Only had problems with the hatchback rattling but the dealer fixed it. It has a Camry engine which is pretty quick off the mark & it is nice & zippy. Plus l know it is gonna go the distance. l bought it because l like 2-door cars, wanted something nice, & it is packed with features for well under 20K. Mine is auto, l could never really get into the whole shifting thing all the time but l live in a city. Check out scionlife.com which is a great website for Scion owners. l own a 2007 Scion tC (manual) & l do not like the car as much as l used to. l am starting to question the build quality because my car rattles (sunroof), & my AC control panel lights no longer work. All covered under warranty, but still, its a hassle. It is becoming more & more clear why the car is only 17k. Nevertheless, it is nice looking, the engine is solid, & it has a few neat features (i.e. panoramic roof, MP3 capabilities). l am torn on rather or not l would recommend it though. Best of luck.

l almost bought a tC today, but l am almost 6 ft 3 inches & there just is not enough headroom nor visibility for me to justify buying it. Compared with similar options in Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda u have to pay almost $21,000 to get the same features on the $17,500 tC. With cars that hold there value like Toyota, Honda, etc. it is better to buy new & enjoy the first 30,000 miles than buy something used - the price wo not be that reduced, & u will have missed the funest 30,000 miles. l would go with the automatic, even though it is a 4 spd. l know the stick is cheaper, sportier, may give better gas mileage, but it will be harder to sell, it gets OLD shifting in traffic, & if u talk on a cell phone in the car FORGET IT! l drove a stick & auto today (thinking like you, & l would go auto). Shifting & clutching r tedious if you've driver an auto for a while, & l owned a stick previously for 8 years & swore I'd always drive stick (no way now). l took the auto tC up to 90 mph & it did not make a lot of noise in 4th gear, & at 65mph, the rpm was 2700 which is quiet for a four cylinder. l drove an auto PT Cruiser at 65mph for several hours & it was noisy! l have an 05 manual with the trd sc. Its a nice car and offers a lot of features for the price like the moonroof. The silver on the center stack scratches really easy and the car has some rattles. Most rattles were fixable 1 was not. l get about 25 mpg in the city and highway. Without the sc you could get 29-31 or so. My concern is the interior seems to wear quickly even if you take care of it and how annoying it is to find and fix rattles.

l just got a 2007 scion tc for my birthday and l adore it. l havent had any problems with it yet but then again i've only had it for about 4 days. l love how low it is to the ground and how it sounds when you accelerate, it makes me feel as if l own a race car. l think the only thing l dont like about it is the dashboard, its plastic and black so it observes the sun light which means eventually its gonna break.

l bought a Scion Tc on Monday. You really can not beat the price of these cars. It is a manual with a sunroof. My dealer had a special on warranties 100,000 miles for 1000 dollars. Wont find that anywhere. We also have a year old xA. After 24,000 miles my build quality fears like many others have put to rest. Great value for the $.

l love my scion TC. l have an auto because l did not want to have to shift all the time. The car is a great car but you need to be careful driving cuz there have been quite a few times when l did not even realize l was speeding when l was going quite fast. It never even felt like it. l just got a stock 2007 tc and even without the options it is a great car.

One thing to consider as u make this decision is interest rates.

Usually interest rates on used cars r higher than new ones.

Do not just look at the sticker, because the price of money for used is more than the price of money for used.

Faced with a similar decision we bought an 07 Flint Mica TC with the pedestal spoiler, upgraded stereo & a couple of other options.

For the money, & considering how well these cars retain their value, l am not sure there r very many better buys on the market.

And they're fun too.

First, new vs. used. l thought the same way u did. Everyone always tells u to buy used, becuase the new car depreciates so much. As someone else said the interest rates on used r higher & when l was looking the best deals l found (in atlanta) was a 2005 tc w/31k for $14000 & a 2007 tc w/7k for $16500. l ended up paying $17k for my brand new 2007 w/22mi! (plus taxes, fees, etc) Shop around but l think u will be disappointed by how much low miles used cars cost.

About the car itself. l love my tc. I've had it for almost 2weeks now. My requirement when looking was a 2 door, sporty car with a sunroof that was a stick shift. (it was hard to find a used stick shift too, if u decided u want one factor that in) I've never owned an automatic & although l thought about it this time for ease, a friend of my who drives stick bought an auto & within 6months she traded it in for a stick (a different car mind u but she said the auto & no sunroof were the major reasons).

Things l like about my tc:
-exterior design
-roomier than my old 2000 cougar (the backseats recline)
-panaramic sunroof
-2dr hatchback (i just have not gotten into sedans)
-price
-toyota dependablility

Things l do not like:
-gas mileage ( l was used to getting 30+ mpg on my cougar)
-no rear wiper (essential for hatchbacks)
- l wish it sat lower, it would feel sportier
Other than that l love it, granted I've only had it two weeks, but its been great
